5 Farms in Seacoast New Hampshire You Should Visit

I'm a bit biased, but New Hampshire has some of the best and most beautiful farms around. When you're living on a budget, this is inexpensive (or often free) fun that everyone will enjoy. Here are five, family-friendly farms on the seacoast that you should check out.

In no particular order...

AppleCrest Farm in Hampton Falls: This place has so much history. Dating back to 1913, it is the "oldest continuously-operated [apple orchard] in America", according to their website. Not only do they sell over 40 kinds of apples, this family-run establishment also offers a variety of other fruits and vegetables (sold in their farm market), as well as other homemade and locally-made offerings. We highly recommend their cider donuts! Food aside, they have friendly sheep and goats, antique tractors, cut-your-own flowers, corn hole, and more. Also, check their website for special events, as there always seems to be something happening here.

Hickory Nut Farm in Lee: Nestled down a quiet, rural street, you’ll find Hickory Nut Farm. Two former architects moved from York, Maine to York Lane to open this impressive goat farm. When we drove up, the first thing we noticed is an elaborate climbing structure built off an antique trailer with goats all over and around it. As we continued to roam the property, there were several other fenced in areas where even more goats hung out - all very friendly and down for a pat. There's also a little store where you can buy items such as goat soap, goat cheese and goat fudge.

Emery Farm in Durham: According to their website, Emery Farm is "the oldest family farm in the country", beginning back in 1660. We especially love to visit for the blueberry picking, but they also sell local products and produce in their shop and cafe. Have fun visiting with the goats, chickens and donkeys that hang out during the warmer seasons. Currently (as of July, 2019), they are building a larger, handicap-accessible facility, which will make room for indoor seating, indoor bathrooms, various food selections and more.

Coppal House Farm in Lee: This 78-acre farm is widely known for the largest (six-acre) corn maze in the seacoast and its impressive sunflower festival. Check out their website for even more events throughout the year, such as silent auctions and sleigh rides. The last time we visited, my son, Wyatt, met one of their Belgian draft horses, also named Wyatt! In addition, they house sheep, chicken, pigs, cats, and dogs. In 2015, they began practicing crop rotation in cooperation with Flag Hill Distillery & Winery (also in Lee), in an effort to become more environmentally conscious, while producing more quality products. Check out my blog post on Flag Hill Distillery & Winery here.

Tendercrop Farm at the Red Barn in Dover: Tendercrop Farm has three locations, in Newbury and Wenham, Massachusetts and Dover, New Hampshire. A couple of years ago, the Dover location built an amazing play area for kids, which includes giant slides made from corrugated drain pipes and climbing structures made from tires. In the summer months, there are animals to watch and story time every Thursday morning. Check their events page for other exciting events throughout the year, such as a Corn Maze and Christmas Festival. Don't forget to also check out their plants and flowers and their indoor gift shop and farm store where you'll find both homegrown and local items. FYI: their peaches are delicious!
