If I could pause the weather as it is now, you wouldn’t hear me complaining about it. That New England “in-between” weather, just after the scorching heat of summer and before the freezing cold of winter, is the best time of year. Wouldn’t you agree? I'm already starting to feel that cold, cold air creeping in occasionally, so we are trying to enjoy the outdoors, as much as we can, while it lasts.

As I was admiring all the autumn colors in our backyard, I decided to organize a little color scavenger hunt for my three-year-old and I to do. I took three bowls and taped a red tag to one, a yellow/orange tag to another, and a green one to the third. When we first started collecting outside, my daughter picked up a couple brown leaves. I asked her to compare them to the color tags, to see if they matched. When she determined that they didn’t, she put them down and went in search for other ones that did. We quickly filled all three bowls and brought them inside to start our project.

Here’s what you’ll need if you’d like to make this project:
Leaves - lots of them, in different colors
Tissue paper - same color as your leaves, torn into pieces
Glue - diluted to the consistency of heavy cream
Soft bristled paintbrushes
Bowls of different sizes - one for each color
Recycled plastic bags
Masking tape (optional)

Turn each bowl upside-down and cover with a shopping bag (and secure underneath with tape, if you choose)

Glue leaves and tissue to the bowls (designating one color for each bowl). Brush some glue mixture underneath and on top of each addition keep everything smooth and glued well.

Once the bottom and sides of the bowls are completely covered, let dry. I would recommend a good 24 hours.

Carefully peel the bowls away from the plastic bags. You'll find that they are extremely delicate, so it may take some patience to remove them without tearing.

Aren't they beautiful? How do you get crafty with your fall leaves?
